Omicron: Concern increased due to new cases in Maharashtra, Section 144 will be implemented in Mumbai for today and tomorrow, rallies and crowds will be banned.

Amid growing concerns over the spread of the new COVID-19 variant Omicron, the Maharashtra government has once again become proactive and has taken action to prevent rallies and crowds in Mumbai as a precautionary measure.

Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrCP) has been invoked for December 11 and 12 to prevent large gatherings in Mumbai, banning rallies, marches, processions, etc.

Those violating the order will be punished under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Seven new cases of Omicron were reported in Maharashtra on Friday, including a one-and-a-half-year-old child.

Of the seven cases, three were reported in Mumbai, four from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.

Three men, aged 48, 25, and 37, had returned from Tanzania, the UK, and South Africa respectively.

While four other patients had come in contact with Nigerian women who were infected with the new variant on 6 December.

Four out of seven are asymptomatic while three have shown mild symptoms. Of these new cases, four have been fully vaccinated, one has been given a single dose against COVID-19 and one has not been vaccinated. Please note that the child is not eligible for vaccination.

The Health Department said that a total of 17 Omicron cases have been reported in Maharashtra so far.

On 26 November, WHO named the new COVID-19 variant B.1.1.529, which has been detected in South Africa as ‘Omicron’. The WHO has classified Omicron as a ‘type of concern’.

Railways again canceled more than 200 trains, checklist before leaving home.

Indian Railways has canceled more than 200 trains on Saturday. Including UP, Bihar, it includes trains of different routes across the country.

These include 227 trains including 37306 SIU-HWH LOCAL, 18413 PRDP-PURI SPECIAL, 03094 RPH – AZ MEMU PGR SPL.
