Pinak MBRL: India Signs ₹10,200 Crore MoUs | Key Features & Global Interest

On the proposal of the Indian Army, the Defense Ministry has signed contracts worth more than Rs 10,200 crore with Solar Industries Nagpur and public sector company Munitions India Limited for Pinak multi-barrel rocket launcher weapon systems and their ammunition.

Last week, the Security Cabinet Committee had approved the Indian Army’s proposal to buy ammunition. Earlier, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi had told in the annual press conference on January 13 that two contracts are to be made according to two different categories of Pinak.

Pinak MBRL: Pinak successful in the export sector

One contract is worth Rs 5,700 crore and the other is worth Rs 4,500 crore. Pinak has already been successful in the export sector, as Armenia has bought it, while many European countries including France are showing interest in it.

The rocket of the weapon system for which CCS has approved has a range of 45 km. It is effective for both Pakistan and China borders. The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) is in the final stages of developing rockets with a range of up to 120 km for the Pinaka system.

The rocket system comes in many variants

The Army Chief had said that as soon as we start getting long-range Pinaka rockets, we can focus on this system, leaving aside other long-range weapons. This rocket system comes in many variants and can hit targets at a distance of 75 km or more.

The DRDO has developed the Pinaka MBRL which is being produced jointly by Solar Industries, Larsen & Toubro, Tata, and Ordnance companies.
