Pratap Gowda Patil, who had contested from the Congress in the last assembly elections and won by a narrow margin, had joined hands with the MLAs who had rebelled against the coalition government and resigned from their seats.

This rebel group was responsible for the Yeddyurappa government. The Supreme Court allowed the 17 rebel MLAs to contest the by-election even though the speaker was disqualified. Last year’s by-election held 15 by-elections.

The election was not announced in these two constituencies following the election irregularities in the Muskie and RR cities. The case that is now in the Musky field court has been dismissed. Its election may be announced at any time.
