SC notice to former Twitter India MD Maheshwari on Uttar Pradesh government’s plea.

The Supreme Court has issued notice to Manish Maheshwari, former MD of Twitter in India, on a petition by the Uttar Pradesh government.

The Uttar Pradesh government has challenged the order of the Karnataka High Court by filing a petition in the Supreme Court.

The Karnataka High Court had quashed the notice issued by the police to Manish Maheshwari to appear and cooperate in the investigation.

The matter pertains to the uploading of a sensitive video of a user misbehaving with an elderly person on Twitter.

According to the allegation, the purported video was shared to disturb communal harmony. A case was registered by the Ghaziabad Police in the matter.

The police had issued notice to Manish Maheshwari to appear and cooperate in the investigation of the case. The Karnataka High Court had quashed this notice on July 23.

In August, Maheshwari was transferred to the US by Twitter Inc. Notice issued on The bench said that the matter needs to be heard, they are issuing notice in the matter.

Uttar Pradesh government filed a petition.

Challenging the order of the Karnataka High Court, the Uttar Pradesh government has said in the petition that the order of the High Court is not correct.

Terming the notice issued by the police under Section 41 (A) of CrPC as arbitrary.

The High Court had said that the notice issued under Section 41 (A) will be deemed to be a notice issued under Section 160 CrPC and Ghaziabad Police will be sent to Maheshwari from his Bengaluru.

At that time Maheshwari lived in Bangalore. Maheshwari had challenged the notice issued by the police by filing a petition in the Karnataka High Court.

At the very beginning of the hearing, the High Court had restrained the police from taking any coercive action against Maheshwari. Later, after a detailed hearing, the High Court quashed the notice.
