Supreme Court dismisses plea against former CJI Ranjan Gogoi, demands internal inquiry. The Supreme Court has dismissed the petition for internal inquiry against former Chief Justice of India and sitting Rajya Sabha MP Ranjan Gogoi. This petition was filed two years ago in the year 2018. At that time, Justice Gogoi was a judge in the Supreme Court. An internal inquiry was demanded, accusing him of giving a wrong verdict in a case.

What did the Supreme Court say

On Friday, the Supreme Court dismisses the petition saying that Justice Gogoi has now retired from the Supreme Court. The court also said that for the last year this petition did not come for hearing and the petitioner did not even make any effort for it. However, the petitioner alleged that despite repeated calls, his case was not listed for hearing.

Many historical decisions of Gogoi

The Bench headed by Ranjan Gogoi gave a historic verdict on the Ayodhya case last year. Apart from this, he gave many more historical decisions such as Assam NRC, Rafale, CJI Office, and RTI.

Tenure of Ranjan Gogoi

Ranjan Gogoi was the 46th Chief Justice of the country. He held the post of CJI from October 3, 2018, to November 17, 2019. Born on November 18, 1954, in Assam, Ranjan Gogoi studied at Don Bosco School in Dibrugarh and St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi.

On 28 February 2001, Ranjan Gogoi was appointed as a permanent judge of the Guwahati High Court. Justice Gogoi became the judge of the Supreme Court on 23 April 2012 and then also the Chief Justice. He retired on 17 November 2019.

Oath as a Rajya Sabha MP

In March this year, he was sworn in as a Rajya Sabha MP. During this time, the opposition parties created a ruckus and had a walkout from the House. During the oath of Gogoi, the Opposition shouted ‘Deal’ and shouted slogans. When Gogoi was questioned on this attitude of the opposition, he said that I do not want to comment on it. They will welcome you very soon.
