Supreme Court quashes CoA set up to manage AIFF, says Under-17 FIFA World Cup should be held in India.
A hearing was held in the Supreme Court today in the matter of suspension of the All India Football Federation by FIFA, the governing body of international football. Meanwhile, the court quashed the CoA set up to manage the AIFF.
An order was passed to revoke the suspension.
The Court says it is passing an order by FIFA to revoke the suspension of AIFF and to hold the Under-17 FIFA World Cup in India as well as allow participation of Indian teams in international events.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the apex court that FIFA has expressed concern over the Electoral College.
Our stand was that the players should be part of the voting executive committee and now we propose that 25% of the eminent sportspersons will be in the elected executive body.
The Supreme Court has agreed to list the review petition filed against the judgment upholding the various provisions of the PMLA Act.

The court has asked if the CoA stopped working today, then who will handle the administration from today till the World Cup?
On this, SG Mehta says that if the CoA ceases to exist, then the General Secretary can act.
‘FIFA never intervened in two years.
Meanwhile, senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan, appearing for the CoA, told the Supreme Court that FIFA never interfered in the last two years when the Constitution was not being followed in the AIFF.
He told the court that everyone here agreed to the changes, but unfortunately, some went to FIFA behind our backs and said it was being done without recognition.
Earlier, the Center requested the Supreme Court to direct the CoA to hand over the final draft constitution for the All India Football Federation (AIFF) to the court by the end of August 23 and from that day the CoA’s order was declared complete.
Supreme Court quashes CoA: Urge to end the term of COA.
The Center urged the Supreme Court to abolish the term of the Committee of Administrators (CoA) and directed that the day-to-day management of the AIFF be looked after by the AIFF administration headed by an acting General Secretary.
Supreme Court asked the Center to take steps to remove the suspension.
On August 17, the court adjourned the hearing on the petition related to suspension till today i.e. 22 August at the request of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who appeared in the court on behalf of the central government.
The Supreme Court, while hearing the matter, had asked the Center to take proactive steps to ensure the conduct of the Under-17 World Cup and lift the suspension of the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
The court said that our emphasis is that the Under-17 Women’s World Cup should be organized in the country.
FIFA suspended AIFF on 16 August.
