Telangana Rain Alert: Rain created havoc in Telangana, and floods in the Godavari river.
The government of Telangana has issued a warning for the districts situated on the banks of the Godavari river in view of the danger of floods due to heavy rains in the state.
State Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao on Monday directed Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and District Magistrates of all the districts falling in the catchment area of the river, to be alerted.
The Chief Minister’s office has said that due to torrential rains in the upper coastal areas, the water flow in the Godavari river is increasing continuously which has crossed 9 lakh cusecs.
The Chief Minister directed the concerned officers to arrange a control room in the secretariats and also to keep a constant vigil on the situation.
The flow of water continues in the Godavari river. In such a situation, the officials have opened 35 crest gates of Shri Ram Sagar to release the water in the low-lying areas.
2.06 lakh cusecs of water have been released from Shri Ram Sagar. With this, 85 gates of Yelampalli reservoir have also been opened to release 6.7 lakh cusecs of water.
8.2 lakh cusecs of water has been released from Medigadda. This is the second time in two months that a flood situation has arisen in the Godavari river.
The severe floods here in the month of July caused massive damage to the crops. It is known that incessant rains for the last 3-4 days have wreaked havoc in some parts of Telangana.
Telangana Rain Alert: Some towns and villages here have been submerged due to the rains.
Villages in some districts have been cut off due to waterlogging on the roads. Normal life has been affected in North Telangana districts due to heavy rains.
Traffic on the roads here has also been badly affected. National Highway 23 in the Mancherial district is also inundated with water. In such a situation, the movement of vehicles is completely stopped.
Two people were killed and one injured after a tree fell on a car in the Nirmal district. Alllapalli Bhadradri Kothagudem district recorded the highest rainfall during this period.
It received 35.1 cm of rain during the last 24 hours on Sunday. According to Meteorological Department officials, this is the third round of rain in Telangana in 115 years.
The previous highest rainfall was recorded in Nizamabad on October 6, 1983, at 35.5 cms. After this, Kohara in the Nizamabad district recorded 67.5 cm of rain on June 17, 1996.
