Terror Funding Case: Big success for Maharashtra ATS, fourth Lashkar suspect Yusuf arrested from Jammu and Kashmir.
The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) on Tuesday said it has arrested another suspect from Jammu and Kashmir for his alleged involvement in money and recruitment.
The suspect played an active role in funding and recruitment for the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
The arrested person has been identified as Yusuf. He had allegedly transferred funds to accused Junaid Mohammad. “The accused Yusuf has been produced in a Pune court today,” the ATS said.
Significantly, “Maharashtra ATS team reached Jammu and Kashmir to investigate Junaid Mohammad case. He was arrested by ATS from Pune.
The team has got some information about his links with the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba. ATS has also recorded the statements of his family members.”
On May 24, the Maharashtra State ATS arrested Mohammad Junaid Mohammad Atta (28) from Khamgaon taluka in the state’s Buldhana district.
Terror Funding Case: On June 2, the ATS arrested another wanted suspect, 28-year-old Aftab Hussain Shah, in the same case.
Shah is accused of being a link between Junaid Mohammad and a Lashkar operative living abroad.
Shah was produced before a competent court of that jurisdiction and was handed over to ATS, Maharashtra on three-day transit remand.
On reaching Maharashtra, he will be produced before a competent court for police custody.
The ATS said that on June 10, ATS had taken Inamul Haq into custody from Saharanpur. He is reportedly an accomplice of Junaid Mohammad, who was arrested by the ATS from Pune.
The 28-year-old accused Mohammad Junaid, according to Maharashtra ATS, is an Indian national, who lives in Pune and was associated with the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror network.
“The team has got some information about Junaid’s links with the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba. The ATS also recorded the statements of his family members,” the ATS said.
According to an ATS official, Junaid was in touch with active Lashkar-e-Taiba members.
Junaid was trying to recruit youth for banned organizations from different parts of the state. “Later these recruits were taken to Jammu and Kashmir for training to carry out terrorist activities.”
The officer informed about the transaction between Junaid and Lashkar. The ATS said the investigation revealed that Junaid was trying to disturb national security and communal harmony.
He was trying to create a religious rift between the communities by posting various comments etc through various social media like Facebook and WhatsApp etc. was doing.
A case has been registered against Junaid under sections 153A (assault on religion, race, etc.), 121A (conspiracy to commit certain offenses against the state), 116 (bribing public servant), and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Junaid’s suspicious role came to the fore during the three-month-long operation in Jammu and Kashmir, for which he shifted from Akola to Pune.
An official said that so far the ATS has identified three Lashkar-e-Taiba operators during the investigation.
