At least three rockets have been targeted at the embassy in the heavily guarded Green Zone on Sunday. Iraqi security officials said the embassy’s C-RAM defense system rockets have been used to destroy the rockets in the air.
At the moment it was not clear whether there were any casualties. The officials have given this information on the condition of anonymity.
Damage to property and parked cars
Iraqi security officials said renewed unrest is feared after the killing of an Iranian general.
Three Iraqi security officials said the embassy’s C-RAM defense system was used to destroy the rockets mid-air. Property and parked cars have suffered damage during this period.
Tensions arose after the assassination of General Qasim Sulemani
The C-RAM system was installed by the US in the summer as armed groups carried out several attacks targeting the embassy and its premises.
Before the first anniversary of the assassination of Iranian General Qasim Sulemani, the US had called some employees from its embassy in Baghdad earlier this month, who were acting unceremoniously there.
Earlier, the US had warned to close the embassy
Let me tell you that earlier in the month of September, Iraq was warned by the American that if he fails to take decisive action to eliminate rockets and other attacks, then he will close his embassy in Baghdad.
