Eight-year-old young chess prodigy Ashwath Kaushik, of Indian descent in Singapore, stuns the chess world by defeating a seasoned Grandmaster.

Eight-year-old Ashwath Kaushik of Indian origin living in Singapore created history by defeating a grandmaster in a chess tournament.

Ashwath has become the youngest player to defeat a Grandmaster. Ashwath defeated veteran Polish Grandmaster Jacek Stopa during the Burgdorfer Stadthaus Open in Switzerland.

This feat not only reflects Ashwath’s prodigious talent but also breaks the record set by another young chess player from Serbia, Leonid Ivanovich. Leonid had made this record a month ago by defeating Grandmaster Milko Popachev.

It is noteworthy that Ivanovich was also eight years old at that time but she was born five months before Ashwath.

Ashwath started training to play chess at the age of four. In the year 2022, Ashwath proved his worth by winning the title of World Under-8 Rapid Champion.

Now he has shown his prodigious talent by defeating Burgdorfer Stadthaus. Speaking to Chess.com, Ashwath described the win as “exciting and surprising”.
