Militants opened fire at a Meitei religious place in Manipur, additional security forces deployed on the spot. Unknown militants in Manipur opened fire from the hills surrounding a Meitei religious place in Imphal East district on Friday. However, the incident did not result in any casualties.

Officials said that the incident took place around 9.30 am, when a group of devotees reached the Meitei holy place Kongba Maru to pray under heavy security cover. A total of seven rounds of bullets were fired from the surrounding hills, but no one was injured in the incident.

After this incident, additional security forces have been sent to the spot. After the firing, locals of nearby villages came out on the streets and blocked the movement of vehicles.

Deadline for surrendering weapons extended

Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has extended the deadline for surrendering looted and illegal weapons till 4 pm on March 6. The statement said that after the expiry of the seven-day deadline for voluntary surrender of weapons, both the valley and hill areas have been requested to extend this period.

No action will be taken on surrender of weapons

After considering these requests, it has been decided to extend the deadline. No punitive action will be taken against those who surrender weapons during this period. Earlier, Bhalla had urged people on February 20 to surrender weapons within seven days, the deadline of which ended on Thursday. People surrendered more than 300 weapons in seven days.

Meanwhile, the SP of Kangpokpi district of Manipur has instructed the policemen not to bow down to the demands of illegal organizations. In the notice issued by Kangpokpi SP Manoj Prabhakar, it has been said that it has come to light that some illegal organizations are demanding money from the policemen in Kangpokpi.

All the personnel of Kangpokpi District Police are instructed not to fulfill the demand. The affected personnel have been directed to contact the office of SP Kangpokpi in case of any emergency.
