According to officials, the crisis unfolded in Fathu Kotli village of Garkhal area, where floodwaters entered homes and stranded dozens of people. The Chenab River, flowing dangerously above its 42-feet evacuation mark, posed a serious threat to villagers.

Despite continuous attempts by the police, NDRF (National Disaster Response Force), and SDRF (State Disaster Response Force), rescue teams were unable to reach the trapped population due to heavy currents and rising water levels.

Officials confirmed that the BSF helicopter made three sorties, successfully airlifting all 45 civilians, including women, children, and the elderly, to safer locations. Senior police and administrative officers were present on the spot to coordinate the rescue.

Eyewitnesses praised the BSF’s bravery and quick response, calling it a “lifesaving mission that prevented a major tragedy.” Villagers expressed gratitude to the security forces for risking their lives to ensure the safety of civilians.
