Batla House Encounter Case 2008: Serial Blasts In Delhi
Batla House Encounter Case 2008: Terrorists conducted serial blasts while staying at Batla House. On September 13, 2008, Delhi was rocked by serial blasts at one of the three places in Delhi.
The bomb blast at Karol Bagh, Connaught Place, Greater Kailash killed 30 people and injured over 100 people.
Four bombs from the Regal Cinema Hall, India Gate, and Parliament Street in Connaught Place were recovered and defused before the police exploded.
The terrorists were in flat number 108 located at L-18 of Batla House
The Special Cell, while conducting a rapid investigation, found that the terrorists of the Indian Mujahideen who carried out the incident are all staying in Flat No. 108, located at L-18, Batla House.
When the team of brave inspector Mohan Chand Sharma arrived at the flat to arrest the terrorists by becoming salesmen in plain clothes on the morning of September 19, the terrorists started firing at the policemen from inside.
Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma was martyred in the encounter.
Two terrorists Atif Amin and Mohammad Sajid were killed in the encounter, while two others Mohammad Saif and Ariz Khan managed to escape. A terrorist Zeeshan was caught by SAIL.
Encounter expert Mohan Chand Sharma, an encounter specialist who led the encounter, was martyred after being shot.
After the encounter, political parties and Jamia Millia Islamia University teachers and students started protesting over the arrest of locals suspected of helping the terrorists.
Several political organizations such as Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party had raised the demand for a judicial inquiry into the encounter in Parliament, besides demonstrating for a long time at Batla House.
Ariz kept the bomb in Greater Kailash.
SAIL says Ariz Khan played a key role in the serial blast in Delhi. The bombs were planted in the park at M Block Market in Greater Kailash.
IM terrorists Mohammed Saif and Khalid alias Kodi brought explosives from Udupi, Karnataka, brought explosives from Udupi, Karnataka. In Delhi, he was received by Ariz along with Atif Amin.
Ariz and Sajid had purchased explosive items from various markets including Lajpat Rai Market. Junaid’s name first came to light when the interrogation of terrorists Mohammad Saif and Shahzad Ahmed caught in the Batla House encounter.
After the encounter, Ariz was hiding in different regions.
Ariz hid in various territories for the first month after the encounter. He then fled to Nepal and began hiding under the guise of Abdul Subhan Qureshi alias Tauqeer (co-founder of the Indian Mujahideen).
A few years later both moved to Saudi Arabia. After this, IM’s Pakistan-based mentors Iqbal Bhatkal and Riyaz Bhatkal had instructed both of them to go back to India and re-organize IM and SIMI.
After this, both started moving to India in March of 2018. In this sequence, Cell first captured Qureshi and then Ariz. Ariz is an active terrorist of the Azamgarh module of IM.
Ariz had also married a Nepal-based woman, and no relatives were given shelter to Ariz and Qureshi. To avoid police for a month, both spent time traveling in trains and buses all over the country.
After this, both fled to Nepal. By staying in the same place, both of them obtained the citizenship of Nepal through fake documents. There, with the help of a young man Nizam Khan, he got a house on rent in Nepal.
A few months later, he got the voter ID card and passport also made. Ariz had also married a young woman from Nepal. He had told his wife that he could not take her to his ancestral house due to being involved in a dispute.
