Chasing a target of 179 runs, the team’s openers Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson gave the team an easy win. The two had a partnership of 181 runs. Both of them beat the Punjab bowlers fiercely and named the biggest opening partnership for Chennai.

Earlier this record was in the names of Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay. The two had a 159-run opening partnership in 2011. Du Plessis smashed 87 off 53 balls, while Watson smashed 83.

Chennai made a great comeback

Chennai now has to play the next match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Abu Dhabi on 7 October, while Punjab has to play against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Dubai on 8 October.
