On the demand of Pakistan’s banned radical Islamic party Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) to remove the French ambassador, the Prime Minister of Pakistan said that this is not a solution.
He said on Monday that the problem of blasphemy in the West cannot be solved by the removal of the French ambassador.
Addressing the nation after violent protests around the country, Khan said that expelling the French ambassador would only increase incidents of blasphemy in other countries because in the West they call it freedom of expression.
He said that the breakdown of relations with France would affect relations with the European Union (EU) as France is one of the main countries of the Union and the European Union would stand with France.
In addition, the export of clothes to Pakistan will be hurt as they are done directly to the European Union. He said that the TLP and the government were following the same objective that no one should insult the Prophet but their methods were different.
The fundamentalists attacked the police station and made them hostage
11 Pakistani policemen held hostage in Lahore city of Pakistan were freed on Monday. The radicals attacked a police station here and took these policemen hostage.
Supporters of the banned radical political party Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) attacked a police station near its rally site here on Sunday. They had taken 11 policemen hostage.
They are protesting the release of TLP chief Maulana Saad Rizvi and an alleged cartoon published last year in France demanding the country’s ambassador to be removed from Pakistan. Rizvi was arrested on 12 April.
Home Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said in a video message that 11 policemen were taken hostage by Rizvi’s supporters. They were released after successful negotiations with the government.
A picture of the hostage policemen was also released, which showed that they had been tortured.
After Rizvi’s arrest, TLP supporters had also staged demonstrations in several cities across the country. Seven people were killed and over 300 were injured in it.
