India emphasizes the role of the peacekeeping commission in UNSC, saying- India’s role in UN peace operations is important: UN Peace Operations.

Following the recent deaths of peacekeepers in Congo, India insisted on peacekeeping and peacekeeping in the United Nations Security Council.

UNSC Ambassador R Ravindra said, “The Peace Building Commission (PBC) should exercise its coordinating role more effectively.

It should involve itself more actively in the activities of the Peace Building Fund to address the fiscal deficit.”

Ravindra said, “There has been a paradigm shift in our approach to addressing conflicts, from resolution, reconciliation, and recovery to prevention and reconstruction.

“The Indian envoy focused on sustainable development, inclusive economic growth, and political processes that are an integral part of conflict prevention and peacebuilding efforts today.”

Requires increased support and increased attention. We emphasize that inclusivity is cardinal in advancing national peacebuilding objectives.

He further said that enhanced financial assistance for peace-building activities should be merit-based.

Ravindra said, “The ongoing discourse on increased financial support for peacebuilding activities through sources other than voluntary contributions deserves a thorough and careful study of the impacts on the UN ecosystem.

Any decision to this effect is warranted. must be based on consensus.” He further said that the PBC should exercise its coordinating role more effectively.

“The advisory role of the PBC should be exercised judiciously, as and when required. It should be more actively involved in the activities of the Peace Building Fund to address the fiscal deficit,” Ravindra said.

India is one of the leading T/PCC (Military/Police Contributor Countries) in UN peacekeeping operations and has been an active member of the PBC.

India’s fundamental approach to peace-building efforts is with regard to the national ownership and development priorities of member-states.

India has always played a constructive and important role in the context of peacebuilding through its extensive development partnership with the countries of the Global South.

India continues to assist countries through bilateral and multilateral fora by providing substantial grants and soft loans in post-conflict situations.

“Going forward, India will continue to be a force multiplier for peace-building efforts. We hope that these efforts will always be driven by a “people-centric” approach,” the Indian envoy said.

Two Border Security Force (BSF) personnel deployed on a UN peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR) succumbed to fatal injuries on Tuesday during violent protests.

The Director General and all ranks of the Border Security Force (BSF) on Wednesday condoled the demise of HC Shishupal Singh and HC Sanwala Ram Vishnoi.

They were posted with the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Both the deceased personnel belonged to Rajasthan and were posted as head constables.
