Indian investigative agencies seeking Interpol’s help to find more than 300 fugitive criminals.
In the last few years, the Indian investigative agencies have been taking the help of Interpol to find fugitive criminals who have committed criminal activities in India.
Interpol’s website lists 316 Red Corner notices related to these offenders. It contains detailed information along with the names of the offenders, to help in extradition.
These criminals include Dawood Ibrahim, Hafiz Saeed, Zaki-ur Rehman, Masood Azhar, terrorists, drug smuggling, and counterfeit bankers.
Explain that the Red Corner notices are issued by Interpol after receiving requests from the investigating agencies about the persons who have fled the country after committing the crime.
The Red Corner Notice is a request from law enforcement agencies worldwide to locate a person and temporarily arrest, pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action.
The Red Corner Notice and the criminals wanted by India are mostly those who are engaged in terrorist activities in India. These include many of Khalistani’s backgrounds and some rebels from the Northeast.
Apart from this, there are also drug smuggling and counterfeit note business in India. The Red Corner list includes the name of the most wanted Dawood Ibrahim for decades, who has been a part of many criminal activities in India.
Other names in the list are terrorists and Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed, Zaki-ur Rehman Lakhvi, Masood Azhar, Dawood Ibrahim’s aides Chhota Shakeel and Iqbal Mirchi, who died in December 2013.
There has been an increase in economic offenders in the last few years. The Finance Ministry had informed the Rajya Sabha in December 2019 that 67 economic offenders had fled India in the last few years out of fear of prosecution.
He paid Rs 17,947.11 crore to Indian banks and other economic institutions.
Some high-profile financial fraudsters placed on the Red-Corner list by Interpol include Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi, and Purva Modi, the wife of Nirav Modi.
