Jammu and Kashmir: State jails running on the basis of police cadre officers, recruitment not done for seven years.

You will be surprised that the jails of Jammu and Kashmir are not run by the jail cadre, but by the officers of the police cadre.

The training and working attitudes of the officers of both cadres are different.

In the seven district jails of the state, including the central jail of Srinagar, the most sensitive of the state, work is being done only by the officers of the police cadre.

Even in South Kashmir’s Pulwama and Anantnag, Jammu division’s Kishtwar, Reasi, Hiranagar jails, an inspector level officer of the police department is working as a jailer.

In the next year, more than half the jailers, including jailor Dinesh Sharma of Jammu’s Kot Bhalwal Jail and DIG Jail Sultan Mohammad Lone, will retire.

After this, the operation of all the jails will be in the hands of the officers of the police cadre. All this is happening due to the non-appointment of jail cadre officers for the last seven years.
