Jammu Kashmir UT: Government’s eye on NGOs and Madrasas in Jammu and Kashmir; List of 600 organizations ready.

The days of various non-governmental organizations (NGOs), societies, and madrasas that have sprouted like the mushrooms in UT of Jammu and Kashmir are now gone.

The state government has issued a notice to about 600 organizations to give details of their funding and renew registration.

In addition to canceling the registration of the organization concerned, legal action will also be taken. Many madrasas have registered themselves as NGOs.

The name of many NGOs and Madrasas in the state has also been associated with terrorist and separatist organizations.

In October 2020, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) also searched some NGO offices in Kashmir.

The state government has asked 446 societies, unions, and organizations of the Kashmir division to hold their elections by March 31, renew registration and submit audit documents.

These include 49 organizations in Anantnag, six in Bandipora, 137 in Baramulla, 13 in Budgam, three in Ganderbal, 24 in Kulgam, 11 in Kupwara, 21 in Pulwama, 41 in Shopian, 141 in Srinagar.

Elections were held in only six of these organizations. While others have never held elections. At the same time, notice has also been issued to 136 organizations in the Jammu division.

The file of Madrasa Islamia Arabiya located in Mendhar of district Poonch, adjoining two organizations Muslim Islami Committee Dhar Bilawar (Kathua) and LoC is also not available.

Many of them had just checked their income and accounts at the time of registration and many had two or three years ago. Most have not assigned ledger accounts.

The organization of Tibetan Muslims is also on the list: The name of former Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Bakshi Ghulam Muhammad is also included in the list prepared by the General Administrative Department.

The Kashmir Olympic Association headed by him was registered in Srinagar in 1950. Also on the list is The Tibetan Muslim Refugee Welfare Association, Idgah Srinagar, an NGO of Muslim refugees from Tibet in Kashmir.

As such, a list of about 600 unions, societies, and associations has been prepared and they have to complete all the formalities by 31 March 2021, otherwise, legal action will be taken.
