A joint team of police and army has arrested two people with weapons in the Khudwani area of the Kulgam district of South Kashmir.
One of the arrested accused is the sarpanch of Badarpora Koyamu. The interrogation of both is on.
According to information received, a patrol party of RR of Kulgam Police and Army stopped two youths riding Punjab number motor cycle PBH-1118 in Badarpora area around 6.45 pm on Wednesday.
The two panicked after they were suddenly stopped by the security forces. The security forces suspected him and when he was searched, a pistol, his two magazines, and 12 rounds were recovered from him.
At the same time, the police arrested the sarpanch and his companions while taking possession of the weapons.
The accused sarpanch has been identified as Aaqib Shafi Badar son of Mohammad Shafi resident of Badarpore Koyamu.
While his accomplice has been identified as Mohd Amin Hajam’s son of Gul Mohammad resident of Hangalgund Kokernag.
Sarpanch Aaqib is said to be associated with BJP. When an attempt was made to contact BJP spokesperson Altaf Thakur in this regard, he could not be reached.
The police are interrogating the sarpanch and his accomplice in relation to the weapons.
