Vigilance Arrested Former Punjab DGP Sumedh Saini

Vigilance arrested former Punjab DGP Sumedh Saini, then Saini’s lawyer reached the High Court.

Former Punjab DGP Sumedh Singh Saini was arrested by Vigilance late on Wednesday night. After this, his lawyers reached the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday morning.

The High Court heard this a while back. The High Court has issued a notice to the Punjab Government in this matter. Now the High Court will hear the matter again in the afternoon.

The Punjab government requested to dismiss Saini’s demand for an early hearing of the matter. The High Court rejected this demand of the government.

Let us tell you that on Wednesday night, Saini’s lawyers kept claiming that he has not been arrested but has been detained for questioning.

Former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini has filed a petition in the High Court through lawyers seeking intervention in this matter.

According to the petition, the High Court has granted him anticipatory bail in various cases, but the Vigilance has made up his mind to arrest him due to political malice.

He had reached the office of the Vigilance Bureau to cooperate in the investigation due to the order of the High Court but he was arrested. High Court Justice AK Tyagi heard the matter in the morning.

The Punjab government urged to dismiss the demand for an early hearing of Saini’s case, but the court, rejecting the government’s request, has fixed the hearing again at 3 pm today.

The court ordered the government to file a reply on the arrest of Saini.

It is worth noting that the Vigilance had registered a case against Sumedh Saini in a matter of purchase of a Kothi located in Sector 20, Vigilance also went to arrest him but he was not found at the Kothi.

According to sources, Saini has been arrested in the constable recruitment scam in Punjab.

He later filed an application for bail in the High Court. In this, the court granted him bail on the condition of cooperating in the investigation.

Today he along with his five lawyers and five associates had gone to the Vigilance officials at 8 pm to join the investigation but the Vigilance has locked the room from inside and arrested Saini.

Although Vigilance officials are not confirming this, sources say that Saini is currently being arrested and interrogated.

It is also not clear in which case Saini has been arrested. Sources are also telling that a new case has been filed which is related to recruitment but no one is ready to give its details.

Sources say that the arrest has been made in the constable recruitment case.

It is alleged that after becoming the DGP, Saini, misusing his position in the recruitment of 5200 police constables at various times in the police, recruited many such people who did not fulfill its eligibility.

There were many complaints pending against him in Vigilance. During interrogation today, the Vigilance officials also took out that case and arrested him in that case.

Saini was afraid of arrest, that is why the petition was filed in the High Court.

Sumedh Singh Saini was already apprehensive that when he would go to the Vigilance to join the interrogation, he would be arrested on some pretext or by adding sections of some other case.

For this reason, he had filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday.

It was said in this petition that if the Vigilance adds any other sections, then it should first take its permission from the High Court.

During the hearing of the petition, Justice Avnish Jhingan strongly reprimanded Saini on this application and said that you have already got interim bail in the case.

Now by repeatedly making new demands, they should not misuse the judicial process and stay within their limits.

On this, even before Saini’s lawyer could say anything, the High Court said that he was going to dismiss this application outright. Seeing the strong stand of the High Court, Saini withdrew his application.

While granting interim bail to Saini on August 12 itself, the High Court had ordered him to join the investigation within a week.

Along with this, the court had said that Saini should also deposit his passport in the court to ensure that he does not leave the country.

Sumedh Singh Saini’s apprehension proved to be true today when he reached the Vigilance office to join the investigation and was told that he has been arrested in another case.
