India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations TS Tirumurti said on Monday that terrorist groups are working under the guise of humanitarian organizations so that the ban cannot be applied to them.
Taking to his official Twitter handle, Tirumurti underlined that the terrorists are taking full advantage of the policy of humanitarian organizations and ridiculing the restrictions imposed.
“There have been many cases of terrorist groups in our neighborhood who claim to be humanitarian organizations so that sanctions rules do not apply to them,” he said.
Tirumurti alerts in UNSC: He mentioned that sanctions should always be used as the last weapon.
Tirumurti further said that before taking any decision it is necessary for the UNSC that all the important regional countries should be consulted as the effect of sanctions is not only on the country but its entire region.
Tirumurti was speaking at an open debate organized by the United Nations Security Council. The debate was held on general issues related to sanctions.
He said that many terrorist groups extort funds under the guise of humanity, collect terrorists.
