Congress demanded action against TRS MLA Dharam Reddy insults backward classes: Telangana.

Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao has demanded that the state government take action against Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MLA Dharam Reddy for his ‘derogatory’ statements against weaker sections of society.

Speaking to the news agency, former MP and senior Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao said that it has been almost 72 years since India attained independence, and even after so many years.

Telangana Rashtra Samithi leader and MLA Dharam Reddy have insulted the weaker sections of the society by saying that they do not know reading and writing and the government’s reputation is being affected by providing reservations to such communities.

Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao further said that the MLA has insulted not only us but also Dr. BR Ambedkar. He has hurt the self-respect of the weaker sections of society by making such statements.

Rao said that the Telangana government should take action against Dharam Reddy for his statements. If it does not, we will hand over a memorandum to the speaker of the Telangana Legislative Assembly and hold a protest till action is taken against the TRS MLA.

Dharam Reddy on Monday issued an apology for his statements, criticizing officials from backward castes. In a public meeting.

Reddy claimed that he made statements to implement reservations for people belonging to the economically weaker sections (EWS). He said, ‘I request caste-based unions and others to think with an open heart.

I only talked about promoting EWS. I did not ask for a cut in the reservation for any caste. I asked for an additional 10 percent reservation for poor people (EWS category).

If anyone feels that my statement was false and if they are hurt by my statements, I will withdraw my words and apologize for my statement. I am sorry for the statements I made.
