Group Captain Varun Singh also lost the battle of life, the funeral will be held in Bhopal on Friday: Coonoor Nilgiri Helicopter Incident.

Group Captain Varun Singh, the lone survivor of the helicopter crash in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu, has passed away. He was the only survivor of the Mi17 V5 helicopter that crashed on 8 December.

He was undergoing treatment at Command Hospital, Bengaluru, where he was put on a life support system. CDS General Bipin Rawat and 12 others were killed in the accident.

Group Captain Varun Singh lost the battle of life on Wednesday. Indian Air Force has given this information by tweeting.

Indian Air Force tweeted that it is very sad to inform that Group Captain Varun Singh has passed away today during treatment.

He was the only survivor of the accident on 8 December 2021. The Air Force expresses its deepest condolences on his passing and stands firmly with his family.

Varun Singh was a resident of Deoria, UP.

Group Captain Varun Singh hailed from Khorma Kanholi village in Deoria, UP, but was born in Delhi. His father Krishna Pratap Singh has retired from the army with the rank of colonel.

Since childhood, he was brought up in a military environment, his younger brother Tanuj Singh is in the Navy.

Varun Singh is survived by his wife Geetanjali, son Rid Raman and daughter Aaradhya, whose family currently resides in Bhopal.

Defense Minister had given information about the accident.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh had told the Parliament that, on 8 December 2021 in the afternoon, the Mi17 V5 helicopter of the Indian Air Force crashed near Coonoor.

In this accident, 12 people including CDS General Bipin Rawat died. General Bipin Rawat was on a pre-scheduled visit to the Defense Service Staff College, Wellington.

IAF’s Mi 17 helicopter took off from Sulur airbase at 11:48 am. It was supposed to land in Wellington at 12:15, but it crashed at 12:08.

In this accident CDS General Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat, Brigadier L S Lidder, Colonel Harjinder Singh, Lance Naik Vivek Kumar, Naik Gurusevak Singh.

Lance Naik B Sai Teja, Naik Jitendra Kumar, Havildar Satpal Rai, Wing Commander PS Chauhan, Squadron Leader Kuldeep Singh, Rana Pratap Das, JWO Pradeep passed away on the same day.

The funeral will be held in Bhopal.

According to Bhopal Collector Avinash Lavania, the last rites of martyr Group Captain Varun Singh will be held in the district itself.

The body will be brought to Bhopal on Thursday afternoon by an army plane. After which his funeral will be held on Friday, December 17.
