Kannada Language Will No Longer Be Compulsory In UG Course

Kannada language will no longer be compulsory in the UG course of Karnataka, a government-issued circular on the orders of the High Court.

The Karnataka government has withdrawn its decision to make Kannada language compulsory for UG students.

According to this new decision, the local students who do not want to choose the Kannada language in their UG course will not be forced to choose the language till further orders of the High Court.

Based on the interim order of the High Court, the circular was issued by the government on January 21.

After this order, students who have already taken the Kannada language for their course will also be given an opportunity to choose the language of their choice.

According to this order, the attendance of Kannada language classes of students will be included in the new language.

The circular, issued on January 21, was addressed to the vice-chancellors and registrars of all public and private universities.

In this regard, instructions have also been issued to the principals of aided and unaided colleges.

Let us tell you that on 7 August 2021, the state government had made it mandatory for students taking UG courses in the state to learn Kannada.

The state government said that the order is in line with the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP).

The Sanskrit Bharati Trust Karnataka, three other organizations and five students have filed petitions challenging the government order.

The students said that this move of the government is against the NEP.

On the government’s decision, the High Court had earlier said that the state government would not insist on making the language compulsory for UG courses.

After this, now the court has further said that students who do not want to take the Kannada language, will not be forced to learn the Kannada language till further orders.

Corona cases increasing rapidly, 50 thousand in Karnataka.

According to the data released on Sunday evening, 50,210 new cases of the corona were reported in Karnataka within the last 24 hours and 22,842 patients have been cured.
