ALH Mk-III inducted into the Coast Guard fleet: Why is this new helicopter so special for the Navy? 

The Eastern Region Wing of the Indian Coast Guard on Monday inducted the indigenously Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Mark-III into its fleet.

The capability of this helicopter in the eastern region will increase the operational range of this unit.

The new squadron will be put into service at Chennai, headquartered in the Eastern Sector Branch of the Coast Guard.

The new helicopter was received with a traditional water cannon salute at Coast Guard Air Station, Chennai.

TM Commander Inspector General AP Badola, Coast Guard Eastern Zone welcomed the helicopter and the crew.

The helicopters will assist in search and rescue operations and will be effective in coastal security.

The Defense Ministry said that these helicopters have been developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. By the middle of 2022, 16 such helicopters will be supplied to the Coast Guard.

Last year, three Advance Light Helicopters (ALH) were handed over to the Indian Navy by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. All three helicopters were indigenous.

These helicopters made in the country have the capability of coastal security. The Mark-III ALH has been built for coastal defense.

HAL handed over three of the 16 Mk-III helicopters to the Indian Air Force during Aero India.

ALH Mk-III inducted into the Coast Guard fleet: These are multi-mission helicopters. These have advanced sensors.

It gets a full glass cockpit with HAL’s Integrated Architecture Display System. Apart from this, there is also a new system and a more powerful power (Safran Ardiden 1H1) engine.

The Indian Navy had ordered 16 Mk-IIIs to make up for the declining performance of its aging fleet.

It will help in the responsibility of coastal security assigned by the government to the Navy after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

These helicopters are equipped with avionics and other important equipment.

The ALH is fitted with advanced sensors that can detect intrusions into Indian waters such as the Mumbai terror attacks.

It is fitted with surveillance radars that can penetrate multiple targets simultaneously. The three-day-long Aero India kicked off on 3 February.

HAL displayed its aircraft and helicopters on a large scale in this show with an emphasis on Make in India.

Mk 3 helicopters are used by all three wings of the army. It is capable of flying in all weathers. It can be used in different missions.

According to the Navy, this helicopter can be converted from a combat helicopter to an air ambulance within two to three hours and sent for the mission of saving lives.

These indigenously built helicopters are equipped with state-of-the-art surveillance radars and electro-optical equipment, capable of carrying out 24-hour maritime reconnaissance, and long-range search, and rescue operations.

The induction of these helicopters will enhance the capability of the Eastern Command of the Navy in pursuit of the maritime interests of the nation.
