Assam And Meghalaya Border Dispute Will Be Resolved Soon

Assam and Meghalaya border dispute will be resolved soon, Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed confidence.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that his government has reached a “mutual understanding” with Meghalaya on six issues of the border dispute.

These six issues were taken up in the first phase of the border dispute.

Sarma said that both the governments, Assam and Meghalaya have reached a mutual understanding. But it has to be confirmed on a large scale.

Thousands of people are involved in this matter, state interest is involved. The government alone cannot decide on this.

We will also discuss this with Amit Shah before January 21.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that there will be another meeting between the two chief ministers. He will also meet the Union Home Minister before January 21.

Sarma expressed confidence that maybe the final agreement will be made public after the chief ministers of both the states of Assam and Meghalaya come back.

In the long-standing inter-state border disputes between Assam and Meghalaya, their respective chief ministers held a meeting on December 23 last year and decided to resolve the issues in six of the 12 points.

Four rounds of chief minister-level talks have been held between him and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on the border issue since Himanta Biswa Sarma assumed office in May 2021.

The two-state governments had also constituted three committees in August last year to resolve complex border disputes in a phased manner.

Of the total 12 points of disputes between Assam and Meghalaya, the less important six points have been taken up in the first phase.

Earthquake tremors were felt in Manipur’s Imphal, measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale.

Earthquake tremors were felt near Imphal in Manipur on Thursday. According to the National Center for Seismology, these tremors were felt at 2:17 pm.

However, so far there is no report of any kind of damage due to this. The epicenter of the quake was 41 km north of Imphal and it has a magnitude of 4.0 on the Richter scale.

5.2 magnitude earthquake in China.

Earthquake tremors were felt in China on Wednesday.

Local media quoted the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) as saying that a 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck Menyuan County in northwest China’s Qinghai province on Wednesday (local time).

According to CENC, the epicenter of the earthquake was found at 37.69 degrees north latitude and 101.49 degrees east longitude.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km. A total of nine people were injured in a 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Menyuan County in Qinghai province on Saturday.
