Attack on BJP office in Assam, Deputy Speaker condemns the attack.

Assam Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Numal Momin condemned the attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office in Sarupathar on Sunday.

The Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, visiting the spot, said that the culprits should not be spared.

“If anyone threatens the people of Sarupathar Parishad area, we will not spare him,” Momin said. We will take strict action against those who try to disturb the peaceful atmosphere.

Goonda Raj will not be allowed in the state and strict action will be taken against the guilty.

The incident came to light on Saturday night (June 4) when a group of unidentified miscreants torched the BJP Sarupathar Mandal office under Bokajan assembly constituency in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district.

The attack comes just ahead of the elections to 26 seats of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) to be held on June 8.

Voting is to be held on June 8 in Violence Zone.

State Election Commissioner Alok Kumar, while announcing the election schedule, had said that voting will be done through ballot papers.

906 polling stations will be set up and the commission will engage 10,000-12,000 polling personnel to conduct the elections.

The total number of eligible voters in Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) is 7,03,298, of which 3,47,790 are women.

KAAC is spread over two districts – Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong and four sub-divisions – Diphu, Bokajan, Howrahghat, and Hamren.
