Bill to ban cow slaughter in Karnataka passed, Congress said – a threat to target minorities. The controversial cow Killing Prevention Bill was passed in the Karnataka Assembly amid the heavy uproar.

Protesting the bill, Congress members later boycotted the assembly. Congress leaders have said that if the law is enacted, it will increase the risk of targeting minorities.

Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill -2020 passed

The bill is officially named Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill-2020. In this bill, provisions have been made to completely ban cow slaughter in the state.

There is a provision for severe punishment for cow slaughter, it’s smuggling, atrocities, illegal travel. The enactment of the law will also protect buffalo and other animals up to the age of 12 from being killed.

Karnataka Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jesse Madhuswamy has confirmed the bill’s passage from the Legislative Assembly.

The bill provides for the formation of fast track courts for speedy justice in cases of cow slaughter.

He said that the introduction of this bill was not discussed in the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee. Therefore, the introduction of the Bill is wrong. Later Congress members walked out of the House shouting slogans.
