Both Terrorists Involved In Amirakadal Grenade Attack Arrested

Both terrorists involved in the Amirakadal grenade attack were arrested, the scooty used in the incident was also seized.

The two terrorists, who carried out a grenade attack in the summer capital’s Amirakadal on Sunday, were arrested by the police on Tuesday within 72 hours of the incident.

The scooty used in the crime has also been confiscated. Both the accused are residents of Khaniyar in Down-Town.

SSP Srinagar Rakesh Balwal said that a grenade attack took place near Amirakadal bridge on Sunday, 6 March. 36 people including two policemen Riyaz Ahmed and Jan Mohammad were injured in the attack.

The two injured, Mohammad Aslam Makhdoomi and Rafia Nazir, later succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.

SIT was formed under the leadership of SP South Lakshya Sharma to investigate this attack and nab the terrorists involved in it.

In this, SDPO Kothibagh Shabbir Ahmed, SDPO Shaheedganj Fayaz Hussain, Police Component Srinagar DSP Faizan Ali, DSP Anjar Shah, SHO Shaheed Ganj Gauhar Hussain, and Police Inspector Component Taseer Ahmed were included.

Apart from the clues found from the spot, the SIT also thoroughly investigated the CCTV footage installed there. Apart from this, CCTV footage of other areas of Srinagar was also scanned.

Data and IP dumps of mobile phone towers were also assessed. Some eyewitnesses were also interviewed.

In this entire investigation, the SIT identified two accused who were on Scooty without a number plate. He did the grenade attack.

Based on the examination of the footage of various CCTV cameras in Srinagar city, it was found that both the accused had gone to the Khanyar area.

The SSP said that in Khaniyar, the police activated their system, and one of the accused Mohammad Barik residents Coolipora Khaniyar was arrested.

When he was interrogated, he revealed his other partner Fazil Nabi Saifi. He is also a resident of Coolipora and he was also caught. Apart from this, the scooty used in the grenade attack was also seized.

SSP Rakesh Balwal said that both of them were in touch with some terrorist leaders sitting across the LoC apart from the terrorists operating in Kashmir.

Both terrorists were involved in the Amirakadal grenade attack: They have carried out this attack only at his behest. They had to throw grenades at the security forces.

For this, they also did rake at some places and decided to attack the security personnel standing in the market near Amirakadal bridge.

He threw a grenade from the moving scooty targeting the standing vehicle of the security forces. The grenade missed its target and fell into the crowd.

Earlier on 10 August 2021 and 25 January 2022, terrorists had carried out grenade attacks in Amirakadal.

The SSP said that we appeal to all the people that they must install CCTV cameras at their homes and commercial establishments. This will help in thwarting anti-national and anti-social elements.
