Police SPO Altaf Hassan, who joined a group of jihadists who escaped with two government assault rifles two days ago, was killed in an encounter in Nagam Chadura area of Srinagar’s Budgam district. As of now, official police confirmation is awaited.
SSB jawan absconding with government weapon from Budgam was arrested from Rajouri
The SSB jawan, who was absconding with his official INSAS rifle and magazine from Budgam three days ago, has been caught from Rajouri. The SSB jawan has been identified as Altaf and is said to be a resident of Rajouri.
The SSB jawan is being questioned by the police. The police are investigating the reason for running away with the weapon from the said jawan. The officers posted in the 14th Corps of SSB have been informed by the police.
On 13 October in the Kashmir Valley, two security personnel, including a BSB jawan, escaped with their government weapons. Taking cognizance of both these cases, the police had conducted a massive search operation to locate the missing security personnel.
The missing SPO is reported to have allegedly joined Jaish-e-Mohammed. This is the first case of a policeman absconding with arms and meeting terrorists this year.
Police have launched an operation in the entire Kashmir Valley to search for the missing SPO, but the SPO has not been detected so far. The help of army personnel is also being sought in this regard.

Altaf, a resident of Rajouri, was posted in the 14th Corps of SSB in Nagam, Chadura area of Budgam district. He suddenly disappeared from his camp at 9.15 pm on 13 October. It was being said that he has also taken the INSAS rifle and DA magazine.
Altaf Hussain is a resident of Rehan Kotranka in Rajouri district. The commandant of his Corps informed the concerned police station last Wednesday morning and requested to register an FIR.
