Do not panic, I’m fine. It is a minor wound. Look at the terrorist, not me. First I have to complete my task, treatment will be done later, CRPF Deputy Commandant Rahul Mathur continued to boost the morale of his colleagues instead of asking for an ambulance for himself after he was shot in the chest and stomach during an encounter with terrorists in Batmaloo, Srinagar.

During this, Rahul Mathur became unconscious after he threw one of his injured companions out of the safe encounter site. When he opened his eyes, he was undergoing treatment at the Army’s 92 Base Hospital at Badami Bagh.

Not only this, when the encounter started, Rahul Mathur also rescued women and children trapped in homes around the encounter site with his team amidst the shootout. A total of three terrorists were killed in this encounter. During the encounter in Firdausabad of Batmaloo, Rahul Mathur led his squad and proceeded to first guess the position of a terrorist and got engaged in locating him.

He managed to kill him, but the bullets fired by other terrorists pierced his chest. One of his companions was also injured during this period, but instead of getting out of the encounter and finding a doctor for himself, he first evacuated his injured partner from there. After this, he started competing with other terrorists.

He instructed his subordinates to look at the terrorist instead of looking at me. With this, he again took his assault rifle and reached out of the room, where the two remaining terrorists were secretly firing, regardless of the wounds. He also killed another terrorist before becoming stunned.

An officer present at the encounter site said that as soon as news of Rahul Mathur’s injuries was received, he was contacted on his radio set and said, “I am fine.” He would have moved away at that time, but he did not leave the field.

If they are coming, let them come, we will kill them

Pankaj Singh, Commandant of 117th Corps of CRPF, said that Rahul Mathur is very brave. We were getting information from the last few days that the terrorists are coming to Srinagar to carry out a major crime. Whenever there was a meeting about it, Rahul used to say, “Come on, then let us come.” We will kill the terrorists by terrorizing their whereabouts.

Today as soon as it was learned that the terrorist is in his safe house in Batmaloo, Rahul Mathur appeared ready with his squad. He did not leave the field despite being injured. He was saying ‘Don’t worry, I’m fine. It’s an axial injury. He fought despite being seriously injured and is currently in hospital. May he get well soon and come out of the hospital.

Rahul, who played an important role in counter-insurgency operations

Rahul Mathur, deputy commandant in the 117th Corps of the CRPF for nearly one-and-a-half years in Srinagar, is one of the few officers of the CRPF who are seen fighting on the front in any counter-insurgency operation. Rahul Mishra had played a key role in killing three of the LeT terrorists who had attacked the CRPF block in Panthachok recently.

Rahul was also leading a Quick Action Team of CRPF when the security forces surrounded the BSF jawans in the Pandach area and looted their weapons. He was also involved in the campaign to kill Hizb commander Junaid Sahrai in the down-town naval group.
