The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), boycotting the Governor’s address, protested in front of the Kerala Assembly, asking the Left government led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to step down.

Demand for the resignation: Earlier, in the high-profile gold smuggling case K. P. Sriramakrishnan, Assistant Private Secretary to Assembly Speaker K.R. was summoned by Customs Department.

P. Sriramakrishnan had said on the previous day that his prior permission is required to inquire with his assistant private secretary in the smuggling case by the Customs Department. Along with that, he said that he would not obstruct any investigation.

Sriramakrishnan, citing the rules of the Legislative Assembly Law, had said that the Speaker’s permission is necessary to take legal action against anyone in the Assembly premises.

A proposal seeking to repeal new agricultural laws

Along with this, a resolution passed on the previous day demanding the repeal of the new agricultural laws of the Center.

In this proposal brought by the Kerala government, the three agricultural laws are being described as being anti-farmer and in the interest of industrialists.

In the meantime, an unexpected incident came to light after the BJP’s only MLA O Rajagopal allegedly supported the said motion in the House.

But after the strict attitude of the Kerala BJP, he turned back from his earlier statement and all three agricultural laws Came in support.
