Cited Nirav’s mental condition

It is known that Nirav Modi along with his maternal uncle Mehul Choksi escaped after a scam of more than Rs 12 thousand crores in Punjab National Bank.

He is arrested and put in jail by the London Police. Now CBI is trying to bring India and prosecute him. A case to this effect is going on in a London court.

In the final two-day debate on the case on Thursday, lawyer Claire Montgomery once again referred to the mental condition of his client Nirav Modi.

Suicidal thinking in Nirav

Earlier, lawyer Claire Montgomery had also mentioned the suicidal thinking in Nirav. This time, referring to the relief given to Julian Assange, he asked for the same concession for Nirav.

While Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), advocating for Indian agencies, opposed this argument. Said that in Nirav’s case the basis of mental health has already been denied.

The government of India has given this argument

Nirav was involved in an ongoing hearing in Westminster Magistrate’s Court on Thursday via video link from Wandsworth Prison in south-west London.

The Government of India has given assurances to Nirav to provide all kinds of health facilities to the court. Therefore this point should not be considered.

District Judge Samuel Gooji’s case was heard in London amid a lockdown in Corona infection. In this, the concerned parties registered a presence online.

Nirav’s sister-in-law became a government witness

Meanwhile, in the PNB case, fugitive diamond businessman Nirav Modi’s sister East Modi and her husband Mayank Mehta have become official witnesses.

Nirav’s younger sister is a 47-year-old East Belgian citizen while her husband Mayank is a British citizen. They live abroad and state that they have never been involved in the investigation of the case.

Eastern has been implicated in the bank fraud case and ED and CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) has filed several charge sheets in the case.

ED has freeze Eastern properties

The ED has previously frozen East’s assets, including some deposits in a Swiss bank, but Eastern had informed the court that he had no beneficial interest in the assets seized by the agency in his name.

The statement issued by the ED said that East and Mayank will help in seizing the deposits in two flats in New York, one each in London and Mumbai, besides two accounts of Swiss banks and one bank account in Mumbai.

Interpol had issued an arrest warrant

Earlier this week, the Mumbai Special Court of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) accepted the plea of both of them to become public witnesses in the case.

In this application filed for clemency, Eastern stated that he was not charged at first sight and his limited role has been revealed by the investigating agency.

He has fully cooperated with the ED in this investigation by providing all the necessary information and documents. In 2018, the ED had also issued Interpol’s global arrest warrant against Eastern.
