DRDO Has Developed A Special System For Submarines

DRDO has developed a special system for submarines. Indian submarines will now be able to patrol underwater for longer.

The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has made significant achievements in the development of the Air Independent Propulsion System (AIP) for diesel-powered submarines.

Its effects have been successfully tested on prototypes outside the sea. The Ministry of Defense gave this information on Tuesday.

The ministry stated that on March 8, the prototype of the AIP was operated in endurance mode (endurance mode) and maximum power mode (power mode) according to user requirements.

The ministry said that the AIP system greatly increases the lethal capacity of a diesel-electric submarine. Fuel cell-based AIPs can last submarines longer than other technology compared to other technology.

The DRDO’s Naval Materials Research Laboratory is developing this system. The ministry said that different techniques are adopted for AIPs internationally.

Defense Minister congratulated.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), the Indian Navy, and the industry for this achievement.

Why is technology special.

There are mainly two types of submarines. One conventional and the other nuclear-powered. Traditional submarines use diesel-electric engines. They need oxygen to burn their fuel.

For this, such submarines have to come to the sea surface every day for oxygen. At the same time, the submarine is fitted with air-independent propulsion ie the AIP system, then it needs to take oxygen only once a week.

This fuel cell-based technology is unique in that the hydrogen required for it is generated onboard.

Big contribution from the private sector.

According to the ministry, the private sector has a major contribution in developing this technology.

The technology has been successfully developed in collaboration with industry partners L&T and Thermax. It is now fully ready for fitment in the submarine.

ISRO teamed with NASA to make ‘Nisar’, capable of measuring even mild changes on Earth.

ISRO has completed the construction of the ‘Synthetic Aperture Radar’ (SAR) in collaboration with the US space agency NASA for a satellite mission for joint observation of the Earth.

SAR is capable of producing high-quality images of the Earth. NASA-ISRO SAR (Nisar) is a joint effort of the two space agencies to observe the Earth’s surface.
