DRDO Set Up New Lab Amidst Tension On The Border

DRDO set up a new lab amidst tension on the border, will keep an eye on the China-Pakistan border.

The central government has merged two laboratories of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) into a new laboratory amidst ongoing tension in the border in eastern Ladakh.

The new laboratories will focus their attention on research focused on icy storms and terrain on the border of China and Pakistan. The leading news agency has given this information citing government sources.

According to sources, ‘DRDO has formed a new laboratory called Defense Geo-Informatics Research Establishment. For this, the existing two laboratories of the Defense Institute have been merged.

The new lab will focus on research related to icy storms and terrain along the border with China from Arunachal Pradesh to Ladakh.

Two old labs that have been merged to form the new lab include the Snow and Avalanche Studies Establishment in Manali and the Defense Terrain Research Laboratory in Delhi.

Let us know that SASE has been working on research about snow and avalanche for a long time. The institute has so far made an avalanche map, marking 3,000 places along the roads.

This map covers different parts of the country, where the armed forces are deployed.

The merger of these two labs is the first step towards large-scale reforms in the Defense Research and Development Organization. DRDO Chief Dr. G. Satish Reddy said that DRDO will be made more result-oriented.

Similarly, the Defense Territory Research Laboratory (DTRL) has been conducting research on different terrains of the country, where the armed forces are deployed.

According to sources, the new lab will deploy its teams in different states on the China border, such as Arunachal Pradesh, which will work closely with the armed forces.

These labs of DRDO were merged when Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an in-depth review meeting on DRDO.

Along with Union Ministers, DRDO Chairman and Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat also attended this meeting.

The Central Government has extended the tenure of DRDO Chief Satish Reddy and has been given the responsibility to implement the reforms in DRDO.

The DRDO Chief has recently formed a committee in association with IIT Delhi. The committee will be headed by P. Ram Gopal Rao, who is the director of IIT Delhi.

The committee will review the duty charter for different laboratories for the deployment of armed forces for future war.

The committee will submit the report to the Defense Research and Development Organization Chief after understanding the working of all the labs under DRDO.
