ED arrests former Unitech promoters Ajay and Sanjay Chandra, Supreme Court allows interrogation of both brothers.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Ajay Chandra and Sanjay Chandra, former promoters of Unitech Group, in a money laundering case.

The ED has arrested both the brothers after the Supreme Court took them into custody and allowed them to be interrogated on the basis of fresh evidence.

The ED is understood to have gathered fresh evidence against the Chandra brothers. Now she wants to interrogate both of them by making them face to face. For this, it is necessary to take them into custody.

The Chandra brothers were earlier lodged in a jail in Mumbai. On Monday, he was brought to a jail in Delhi. The ED arrested both of them on Tuesday morning.

The federal agency had submitted a report against the Chandra brothers in the Supreme Court in August this year.

It was alleged that both the brothers were running underground offices despite being lodged in Tihar Jail.

It was also alleged in the report that some officials of Tihar Jail were helping these two brothers in running the office from inside the jail.

After a prolonged hearing, the top court had asked the Delhi Police to look into the matter.

36 jail officials were allegedly helping the Chandra brothers.

The Supreme Court had asked to take action if found guilty. Following the apex court’s order, Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana constituted a committee to probe the matter.

The Delhi Police Commissioner had prepared a report alleging that around 36 jail officials were allegedly helping the Chandra brothers.

A bill to increase the age of marriage of girls from 18 to 21 years was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday amid a huge uproar.

Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani introduced the Prohibition of Child Marriage (Amendment) Bill, 2021.

Describing the bill as giving equality to women, Irani said that we have already delayed it by 75 years.
