ED Raided Two Houses Of Anil Deshmukh In Nagpur

ED raided two houses of Anil Deshmukh in a money laundering case.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Sunday raided two residences of former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh in Nagpur district in connection with the money laundering probe.

Two separate ED teams raided Deshmukh’s residence in Katol town, about 60 km from here, and his ancestral house in Vadvihira village near Katol, a police official said.

The raid started around 6 am. The official said that searches were going on at Deshmukh’s premises at Katol, while the searches at Vadavihira were completed around 12 noon.

The ED is probing a money laundering case allegedly involving bribery and the recovery of crores of rupees.

Due to this matter, Deshmukh had to resign from the post of Home Minister in April this year.

The central agency had recently arrested Deshmukh’s personal secretary Sanjeev Palande and personal assistant Kundan Shinde.

Earlier, ED had raided the residences of both these and the NCP leaders in Mumbai and Nagpur. The ED had summoned Deshmukh for questioning in the case, but he did not appear.

The ED registered a case against Deshmukh and others after a preliminary inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on the orders of the Bombay High Court.

The High Court had asked the CBI to investigate the bribery allegations leveled against Deshmukh by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh. Deshmukh has denied the allegations.

Earlier on Friday, the ED has attached assets worth over Rs 4 crore of former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.

This action has been taken under the ongoing money laundering case against Deshmukh. Deshmukh and his family have been avoiding appearing before the ED despite several summons.

According to ED sources, preliminary orders have been issued under the PMLA Act for the attachment of some properties of Anil Deshmukh, which are not directly in his name but are in possession of these properties.

The total value of these properties is estimated to be around Rs 4.20 crore. These include a flat in Worli, Mumbai. This flat is in the name of his wife. Its value has been estimated at Rs 1.54 crore.
