Euro Cup 2020: Italy Broke Its Own 82-Year-Old Record

Euro Cup 2020: Italy broke its own 82-year-old record, also made it to the quarter-finals.

Italy set a new national record on Saturday (local time) after defeating Austria in Euro Cup 2020. Italy’s team has won the 31st match in a row.

Extra-time goals from Federico Chiesa and Matteo Pessina helped Italy win over Austria in the 16th match of the Euro Cup 2020 at Wembley Stadium here on Saturday (local time).

As a result of this 2–1 win over Austria, Italy qualified for the quarter-finals and the team will now play their next match on 2 July.

Italy broke the 82-year record after the victory against Austria.

Earlier, Italy, under Roberto Mancini’s captaincy, equaled the record with a 1–0 win over Wales, but Italy’s national record was broken after a win against Austria.

Vittorio Pozzo was Italy’s coach when the team played four years without a loss between October 1935 and July 1939.

During that phase, Italy won its second consecutive World Cup and also won a gold medal at the 1936 Olympic Games.

Italy has lost two matches since Mancini took over in May 2018 and the last defeat came against Portugal in a Nations League match in September of the same year.

Talking about the Euro Cup 2020 season, two teams have qualified for the quarter-finals. Denmark defeated Wales to reach the quarter-finals, while Italy defeated Austria to reach the quarter-finals.

There are also two knockout matches to be held on Sunday i.e. 27th June. The winning teams of these two matches will also advance to the quarter-finals, while the losing teams will end the tournament.

Denmark became the first team to reach the quarter-finals of Euro Cup 2020, thrashed Wales badly.

Kasper Dolberg’s two goals helped Denmark reach the quarter-finals of the Euro Cup as they beat Wales 4-0 in Amsterdam on Saturday.

Apart from Dolberg, Joachim Mahle and Martin Braithwaite also scored for Denmark.

The specialty of Denmark is that if he scores even one goal in the match, then he can win the whole match by playing the same margin.

However, scoring four goals, the team did not give Wales any chance to make a comeback.

At the same time, the Wales team has been struggling throughout the tournament and its captain Gareth Bale also disappointed the team in this match.

Even on good occasions, his shots could not go into the goal post.
