According to the media report, the purpose of this visit of the Foreign Minister will be to strengthen India’s relations with the island nation.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is believed to be raising the issue of releasing Indian fishermen during his trip, who was arrested last month.

Along with this, the development of bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries will be reviewed.

Before this Ajit Doval went to Colombo

Explain that Jaishankar’s visit to Colombo is the second high-profile visit in the last two months.

Earlier, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval visited Colombo in November for a three-tier dialogue with the Maldives and Sri Lanka for maritime cooperation and security.

Significantly, in November last year, Sri Lankan President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa took office. During that time the Foreign Minister met him.

According to the media report, India was upset with Sri Lanka moving closer to China, so the Foreign Minister traveled to Colombo to correct the relationship between the two countries.

At the same time, Sri Lankan President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa visited the Indian capital New Delhi as his first foreign tour. During this time the relationship between the two countries was strengthened.

Meanwhile, in September, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also participated in a virtual bilateral summit with Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
