Former CBI Director Raghavan Questioned Congress

Former CBI director Raghavan questioned Congress on the Bofors scam in his book. The CBI, led by former Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director RK Raghavan, investigated the much-talked-about case.

In his autobiography A Road Well Traveled, RK Raghavan has raised many questions with the Congress regarding the Bofors scam.

Bofors’ genie is once again expected to be awakened by the book of former Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director RK Raghavan.

In his autobiography ‘A Road Well Traveled’, Raghavan blamed the then Congress government for carrying out the investigation into the brokerage in the Bofors cannon deal.

It is said that due to non-disclosure of facts, the case could not stand in court and the accused were acquitted. The Rs 1,437-crore cannon deal in 1986 with the Bofors Company of Sweden brokered Rs 64 crore.

The names of Congress leaders, government officials, and arms brokers were revealed in taking this amount of brokerage. The then Rajiv Gandhi government was dragged away from power due to this corruption case.

The case was investigated by the CBI between January 4, 1999, and April 30, 2001, when the director of the agency was Raghavan.

In his book, he has raised questions on the role of Congress in the case but has not confirmed in what form and which leader got the kickbacks from the party. Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was also involved in the case.

Raghavan has written that the Bofors case is an example of how the government derails a right case and the right charges die.

During this time many things are hidden from the public, and the CBI is held responsible for all this.

However, PV Narasimha Rao of the Congress was in the governments of Manmohan Singh from 1991 to 1996 and then from 2004 to 2014.

In 1990-91, even if Chandrashekhar’s government was in power for a few months, it had outside support from the Congress.

The CBI started investigating the case in 1988 amid public protests arising out of revelations by Swedish radio and Hindu newspaper. But it was a kind of smudge. At that time there was a government of Rajiv Gandhi at the center.
