Deputy Chief Minister and Higher Education Minister, Dr. C.N. Ashwathth Narayan has announced the establishment of a global quality degree college in each of 28 assembly constituencies of the capital.

He told reporters after a progress review meeting of the Higher Education Department in Bangalore that the National Education Policy aims at quality learning, teaching, and research.

He also said that the best colleges in the assembly constituency would be established through Bangalore Central (Central College), Bangalore (Jnanabharathi), and Bangalore North (Kolar) Universities.

Bangalore is growing exponentially and the population exceeds 1.50 crore. Against this backdrop, more colleges are needed to effectively meet the academic needs of students in the next few years.

If not, a new college will be built. Thousands of economically and socially disadvantaged students are unable to attend private colleges, DCM said.

It is no coincidence that the dream is to create more colleges. However, the land required for this should be provided by the government. The Chief Minister will be appealed to.

Before the progress review meeting of the department, I had a conversation with Manjunath, the Bangalore city collector.

Only courses are on-demand

Career-based, professional, and globally demanded courses will also be started based on the factors mentioned in the Education Policy. The deputy chief ministers said that this will improve the social and economic conditions of the students.

Currently, there is a shortage of tutors in the state’s graduate colleges. A further 8,000 teaching posts have been requested to be sanctioned. These vacancies need to be sanctioned in addition to vacancies that are now vacant.

Already, Chief Minister Yeddyurappa has demanded this. Similarly, it has been requested that the total grants received by the department below and that more than 3.5% of the state’s total budget should be allocated to higher education.

Now, that means a total of Rs 4687 crore sanctioned in the 2020-21 advance. 88 percent of the grant is Rs 3998 crore.

The remaining 12 percent, that is, Rs 595 crore. Only development work has been carried out in the department. Ashwath Narayan informed that the grants have been increased by the chief minister.
