Children from government schools in Tamil Nadu will get up to a 7.5 percent quota in professional courses. Soon government school children will get a 7.5% quota in professional courses.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin introduced a bill in this regard in the Assembly on Thursday.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Thursday introduced a bill in the Assembly to provide 7.5 percent reservation to students studying in government schools for vocational courses such as agriculture, law, fisheries, and engineering.

After the bill is passed, 7.5 percent of seats will be reserved for government school students for admission to professional courses like engineering, agriculture, fisheries, and law in the state.

Introducing the bill in the House, Stalin said that very few children studying in government schools are able to take admission in professional courses.

Due to the poor financial condition of the family and lack of awareness, the number of government school students taking admission in professional courses is very less.

AIADMK MLAs have also welcomed the bill. Earlier this month, the MK Stalin-led cabinet had decided to provide 7.5 percent reservation to students of state-run schools for admission to professional courses.

HC rejects a 10% EWS quota in medical-dental seats.

The Madras High Court on Wednesday quashed the 10 percent reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) for admission to medical and dental seats in the All India Quota (AIQ) seats surrendered by the Tamil Nadu government.

This violates the 50 percent limit set by the Supreme Court. Chief Justice Sanjeev Banerjee and Justice P.D. Audikesvalu said- EWS quota is admissible till approved by the Supreme Court of India.

The court, however, held that 27 percent reservation for OBCs notified by the central government in AIQ seats by the Tamil Nadu government for admission to medical and dental courses is possible and there is no need to provide 50 percent reservation in the state.
