History of December 16: ‘Victory Day’ is celebrated as India’s victory over Pakistan.

December 16 is also celebrated as Vijay Diwas. Vijay Diwas is celebrated on 16 December to mark India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war.

After this war ended, 93,000 Pakistani soldiers surrendered. India defeated Pakistan in the war in 1971, then East Pakistan gained independence, and now Bangladesh.

‘Pakistan’s pride’ came to its knees in 3 days, and 93000 enemy soldiers surrendered. If seen in the true sense, on 14 August 1947, India was not divided into two, but into three parts.

For saying East Pakistan was a part of West Pakistan, but there was no match between these two parts from social, intellectual, and cultural points of view.

Perhaps this is the reason why East Pakistan and the Bengali-speaking residents living there had to face continuous step-motherly treatment from the partition till the formation of Bangladesh.

And, the tees that grew out of this step-motherly treatment soon took the form of Mukti Vahini. Mukti Bahini had the full support of the Indian Army.

Pakistan could not tolerate this. The then-military rulers of Pakistan believed that the Indian Army was around East Pakistan to help the Bangladesh Liberation War.

This is the time to declare war against India from many fronts. Pakistan was expecting two benefits from this.

First- their occupation of Kashmir and second the pressure of the Indian Army from East Pakistan will reduce.

History of December 16: The day of December 16 is recorded as the golden date of India. On this day India forced Pakistan to kneel down.

In 1971, 93,000 soldiers of Pakistan surrendered in front of India, and a new nation was born in the form of Bangladesh. In this war which lasted for 13 days, the fighters of Pakistan proved to be lazy.

The bravery of Indian soldiers created a new history and Pakistan had to face a crushing defeat. Pakistan came to know that India is a country with which it would be very difficult to get involved.

The whole country celebrates this day as Vijay Diwas. Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw was the main architect of this victory.

He was the first military officer to get the rank of Field Marshal in the Indian Army.

When there was a war between India and Pakistan in 1971, the command of the Indian Army was in the hands of Sam Manekshaw.
