Human Trafficking Cases: RPF freed more than 720 children and women in the Northeast, and 10 traffickers were arrested.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) rescued 725 children and women between April and December last year.

Giving information about this, a senior official said that during this period RPF has also arrested 10 human traffickers.

NFR chief spokesperson Sabyasachi Dey said that during the period from April to December 2022, the Railway Police Force of Northeast Frontier Railway rescued 686 minor children and 39 women.

Apart from this, 10 human traffickers were also arrested.

The rescued victims were handed over to Childline, NGOs, and Railway Police or parents as per legal provisions for their safe custody and further action.

Four minors were rescued from different stations. He said that on Friday, RPF got four minors freed in operations from different stations.

In Guwahati, a team of RPF and the Crime Intelligence Branch rescues a runaway girl from Kamakhya Railway Station during a routine joint investigation.

The Railways later handed him over to Childline, Guwahati. In another case, RPF rescued another girl and two boys who ran away from home during general checking at Lumding Railway Station.

After identification by RPF, their parents were informed about it. The rescued minors were handed over to their parents after proper verification.

‘Meri Saheli’ creates awareness about safety.

NFR has launched ‘Meri Saheli’ as part of the anti-human trafficking initiatives of the Railways.

Under the ‘Meri Saheli’ initiative, women constables and inspectors educate women passengers and children about safety precautions and the 139 helpline number.

This provided safety-related information to both women and children.
