ICC Lifted Ban On Sri Lankan Star Spinner Aquila Dhananjay

ICC lifted ban on Sri Lankan star spinner, 33 wickets in 6 Tests. Good news came on Friday for the Sri Lankan cricket team.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) lifted the ban on Sri Lankan spin bowler Aquila Dhananjay.

The ICC said that Aquila has been allowed to improve bowling action and resume bowling in international cricket after its re-evaluation.

The bowling action of Sri Lankan emerging spinner Dhananjay was reported during the Test match against New Zealand in 2019 from August 14 to 18 in Gaul.

He was then banned from bowling for a year. Now he will be able to bowl for Sri Lanka again.

The ICC said an expert panel looked at footage of Dhananjay’s bowling action provided by Sri Lanka Cricket as assessment was not possible at the ICC accredited center due to various restrictions imposed by Covid-19.

Accordingly, the panel concluded that his bowling action consisted of elbow twisting to within 15 degrees which were under the ICC bowling rules.

Dhananjay was first banned from bowling in December 2018 due to questionable action.

After the bowling action was improved, his action was assessed and he was allowed to resume bowling in February 2019. After which he was banned for 12 months in September.

Aquila has played 22 T20 matches for Sri Lanka with 6 Test matches and 36 ODIs.

Showing the brilliance of his spin, this bowler has taken 33 wickets in Tests, taking 5 wickets in 4 innings. Akila has 51 wickets in ODIs. At the same time, he has also taken 22 wickets in T20.

At the age of 29, this all-rounder said goodbye to Sri Lanka cricket, decided to leave the country with family. Disappointing news came for the Sri Lankan cricket fans on Friday 8 January.

At the age of just 29, the team’s all-rounder Shehan Jayasuriya has announced his retirement from international cricket.

He has taken this decision due to family reasons. Shehan is also now leaving Sri Lanka. He is going to shift to America with the whole family.

The Sri Lankan Cricket Board has confirmed that all-rounder Shehan has decided to say goodbye to cricket. The press release issued by the board informed about his retirement from international cricket.

The 29-year-old Shehan has already informed the Sri Lanka Cricket Board that he will no longer be available for selection for any further international matches.
