India Built The World’s First Exploratory Trace Detector

India built the world’s first exploratory trace detector based on a microsensor.

Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank launched the world’s first microsensor-based indigenous Explosive Trace Detector (ETD) called Nanosnifer on Friday.

This inexpensive device capable of detecting explosives in less than 10 seconds will reduce the country’s dependence on imported equipment.

The Education Minister said that the launch of Nanosnifer will encourage other institutions, startups, and medium-scale industries to research and develop products within the country.

It has been developed by IIT Bombay-linked startup Nanosniff Technologies and is marketed by Virat Technologies, a byproduct of Startup Critical Solutions, formerly associated with IIT Delhi.

Its basic technology has been patented in the US and Europe. The device can identify and classify all types of explosives.
