7 million tonnes of sugar exported.

India exported a total of 7 million tonnes of sugar in the market year 2020-21, while the domestic production stood at 31.19 million tonnes in the same period.

In the same festive season, from October-November, the government had limited the export of sugar to 10 million tonnes to keep the retail prices of sugar under control.

However, the cooperatives have demanded an increase in the export limit to one million tonnes.

9.5 million tonnes of sugar export agreement.

According to the data, about 9.4-9.5 million tonnes of sugar have been contracted so far. Of this, about 8.6 million tonnes are expected to be exported by the end of May 2022.

The domestic market is estimated to have sold around 16 million tonnes of sugar during the Oct-April, up from 15.26 million tonnes in the year-ago period to over 750,000 tonnes.

Apart from this, the government has increased the domestic sugar sales quota issued till June by 5,50,000 tonnes as compared to the same period last year.

It is estimated that the domestic sugar consumption in the current marketing year will be 27.5 million tonnes as against 26.55 million tonnes in the previous year.

According to ISMA, domestic sugar production has reached 35.23 million tonnes in the current marketing year till June 6, as against 30.74 million tonnes a year ago.
