India New National Policy 2020: India opens doors for foreign universities, campuses will be opened in the country. India has now opened its doors to foreign universities under the new education policy during the global pandemic Kovid-19.
The prestigious universities of the world will now be able to open their campuses in the country. With this, it will help in stopping the brain drain and the country’s economy will also get a big boost. This decision has been taken under the announcement of the new education policy after 34 years in a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Higher Education Secretary Amit Khare told reporters on Wednesday that the government will give the world’s highest-ranked universities the opportunity to open their own campuses in India. It is said that the fact is also working behind this decision of the government that every year seven and a half lakh students go to study abroad. To do this, he spends huge sums of billions of dollars abroad.
However, critics of this decision also say why top-class universities would like to open their own campuses in India when the Indian government has set a maximum fee under its new education policy. That is, now universities will not be able to raise money. It is noteworthy that PM Modi along with the left leaders of the country has been opposing the efforts of the previous governments to allow foreign universities in India. But now the situation has changed.
It is said that the need for a new education policy was being felt in the country for the last nearly a decade, but work on it started in 2015 when the government constituted a committee headed by TRS Subramaniam. The report given by the committee in 2016, the ministry has given a more comprehensive perspective to study in 2017, former ISRO chief Dr. K. Another committee headed by Kasturirangan formed which gave its report on 31 May 2019. Earlier education policy was formulated in 1986. Later some changes were made in 1992.
