India raised the issue of terrorism in the United Nations, expressed concern over looting at sea.

India has raised concern over terrorism in the Sahel and Lake Chad region and looting incidents in the Gulf of Guyana.

In the recent Gulf region of Guyana, several Indian sailors have been looted and many have been kidnapped. India has stated the need to take effective and decisive steps against the incidents of terrorism and looting at sea.

India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations TS Thirumurthy said on Monday, ‘The situation in the Sahel and Lake Chad region is very worrying. The Chad region has always been a cause for serious concern.

Incidents of terrorism, drug trafficking, and organized crime continue uninterrupted. Terrorist incidents have also taken place in Budinac Faso, Mali, and Niger.

There is a need to intensify operations in this area to combat terrorism.

In an open session of the Security Council on the Office of the United Nations for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), Tirumuíit said close coordination is needed to combat terrorism in the region. On the robbery incidents at sea, he said that the case of looting in the Gulf of Guyana is a matter of concern and there have been 17 such incidents in the last six months. This requires quick steps.
